Although they do grow here in Flagstaff, prickly pear cactus aren't very common. They have a hard time surviving at Flagstaff's 7,000 foot elevation where there is snow on the ground for much of the winter months. This photo was taken near the city of Sedona, AZ where, at 4,500 feet above sea level, the environment is much more desert like and is perfect for cactus plants of all kinds.
